Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals

Building institutions for sustainable development — today and beyond 2030.

LCSDN

The Local Communities Sustainable Development Network (LCSDN) strengthens and transforms the institutions that deliver sustainable development at the community level. We connect global frameworks to local practice, and local outcomes back to global systems.

The Challenge of Localizing the SDGs

The Sustainable Development Goals established a shared global framework to address climate change, inequality, governance, resilience, and human well-being. Yet progress remains uneven — particularly at the local level where implementation ultimately occurs.

The challenge is not the SDGs themselves. The challenge is the absence of institutional models capable of localizing the SDGs, integrating their interconnections, and sustaining coordinated action over time. Many organizations continue to operate within sector-specific and compliance-driven frameworks that were not designed for the integrated demands of sustainable development — or for the future beyond 2030.

Sustainable Development Corporations

A Sustainable Development Corporation is an institution intentionally built for SDG implementation. It:

Aligns governance, strategy, and operations with the SDGs

Integrates social, environmental, economic, and governance objectives

Operates across traditional program silos

Demonstrates accountability, transparency, and measurable outcomes

Adapts as sustainable development evolves beyond 2030

LCSDN exists to help organizations become, strengthen, and remain Sustainable Development Corporations.

Who We Are

The Local Communities Sustainable Development Network (LCSDN) is an international intermediary dedicated to advancing the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals by strengthening and transforming the institutions responsible for community-level delivery.

We work with NGOs, community development corporations, faith-based organizations, local governments, practitioners, and partners to help organizations evolve into Sustainable Development Corporations (SDCs) — institutions intentionally designed to implement the SDGs in an integrated, accountable, and forward-looking manner.

A Global Network with Local Depth

LCSDN operates across regions while remaining grounded in community-level implementation. Our network bridges institutions, practitioners, and partners committed to sustainable development delivery and institutional transformation.

Sustainable Development Week

Sustainable Development Week (SDW) is LCSDN’s annual global convening — a coordinated yet locally led platform where Network members and partners demonstrate SDG localization in practice.

Across regions, institutions host trainings, dialogues, site visits, and project launches that make local sustainable development visible, connected, and measurable. SDW transforms localized action into shared global momentum.

LCSDN’s mission is to localize the Sustainable Development Goals by strengthening and transforming the institutions that deliver them, building Sustainable Development Corporations (SDCs) that integrate social, environmental, economic, and governance outcomes, uphold accountability and transparency, and prepare communities for sustainable development beyond 2030.
